Event : Concerts Today with Bay Chamber
Category: Movies/Concerts/Plays
Date: 8/9/2019
Time: 04:00 PM
City: Rockport
State: Maine
Location: Union Hall

The musical journey begins with a free performance featuring students who participated in Bay Chamber Music School’s Envision Chamber Music Workshop. For the previous week students are grouped in trios and quartets and prepare a piece to perform and the Friday afternoon concert. The community is invited to attend this free concert to celebrate the students’ achievements. A reception for friends and family follows the performance.

At 5:30PM on Friday evening, Bay Chamber Concerts presents The Nightingale’s Sonata, an evening of music, historical photographs, and readings from Bay Chamber Concerts’ co-founder Thomas Wolf’s new book The Nightingale’s Sonata. This richly woven tapestry centers around Wolf’s grandmother, the legendary violinist Lea Luboshutz, and her remarkable musical family. Spanning generations, from the shores of the Black Sea to the glittering concert halls of New York, it is also the story of Cèsar Franck’s magnificent violin sonata which will be performed during the evening by esteemed musicians, Geoff Nuttall, violin and pianist, Pedja Muzijevic.  Of special interest is a focus on Rockport, Maine as one of the first vibrant summer music centers in America beginning in the 1930s and extending to today.
Audience members are invited to a reception following the concert at 162 Russell Ave. in Rockport and will receive one free copy of Wolf’s book per family.

And finally at 8:30PM in Union Hall, Bay Chamber Concerts’ Café Nights Series continues with Candlelit Baroque, one of the most popular concerts of the summer season. On this year’s program are Geoff Nuttall, violin; Joshua Roman, cello; Pedja Muzijevic, piano; Anthony Roth Costanzo, countertenor; joined by special guests, Maya French, violin; Brianna Fischler, viola; Ju-Young Lee, cello; and Nate Martin, double bass. The program features arias by Handel and Purcell sung by the "otherworldly" (The Wall Street Journal) and "vocally brilliant and dramatically fearless" (The New York Times) countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. This sparkling concert also includes a performance of C.P.E. Bach’s Cello Concerto with soloist Joshua Roman, and the Overture and Rondeau from Purcell’s Abdelazar.

Tickets for Friday’s 5:30PM and 8:30PM performances are $45 for adults and $10 for those under age 25.  For more information on Bay Chamber Concerts’ Summer Concert Series and Screen Door Festival, please visit baychamberconcerts.orgor call (207) 236-2823.
