Category: Arts & Literature
Date: 9/10/2019
Time: 07:00 PM
City: Camden
State: Maine
Location: Camden Public Library

Local journalist and novelist Daniel Dunkle will talk about the research and inspiration behind his novel, "The Scrimshaw Worm," on Tuesday, September 10 at the Camden Public Library. The author talk starts at 7 p.m.

Set on a whaling ship in 1851, "The Scrimshaw Worm” tells the story of a heroic ship’s doctor determined to save his friends from the alien creature that has hidden itself somewhere onboard leaving only dead bodies in its wake. The crew come to suspect that the mysterious infestation has something to do with the secretive young woman found cast away in a whaleboat full of human bones.

Dunkle is fascinated with whaling history and decided to combine it with his other passion: creature features. "The Scrimshaw Worm" won the Book Award for Speculative Fiction in the 2019 Maine Literary Awards coordinated by the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance.

Dunkle began his writing career as a reporter for The Courier-Gazette in Rockland in 1998 and has served as editor of The Republican Journal in Belfast. He currently serves as the editor for both The Camden Herald and The Courier-Gazette, as well as news director for Courier Publications and VillageSoup.

"The Scrimshaw Worm” is available as an ebook or paperback through Amazon. Dunkle will have books available for purchase at the event. To find out more about this author talk visit
