Chamber Legal Breakfast to address Workplace Impacts of Marijuana Legalization

 

Camden, Maine - The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce and Eaton Peabody are pleased to offer their latest Legal Breakfast, with the topic of Workplace Impacts of Marijuana Legalization. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 30, at 16 Bay View Hotel in Camden, with registration and continental breakfast beginning at 8:00 am, and the presentation will run from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.

During the session, Eaton Peabody attorneys Gretchen Jones and Sarah Newell will discuss issues for consideration by Maine businesses as a result of the illegality of marijuana and marijuana businesses under federal law. They will share the current status of the law and guidance intended to assist professionals, businesses, and insurers in assessing and addressing the risks presented by marijuana legalization in Maine. The presentation will cover the following details: law enforcement expectations, due diligence, best practices, and other risk management issues.

 

This event is open to the general public, and pre-registration is required. Admission, which includes continental breakfast, is $10 for Chamber members, and $20 for non-members.  Those wishing to register should go online towww.CamdenRockland.com and click on the "Events” menu. Gretchen Jones is an Eaton Peabody Shareholder and Chair of the firm’s Business Law Practice Group. Gretchen has extensive experience in representing businesses and financial institutions in transactional matters as well as before the Maine Legislature, members of Congress, federal financial regulators and state agencies. She also represents individuals and business entities in business succession and transition planning and estate planning and administration. She is a frequent speaker on a variety of legal issues including financial services regulatory matters and business planning. Sarah Newell is an Eaton Peabody Shareholder. Sarah represents employers in the private, nonprofit and public sectors and her practice is focused on employment and labor law. She assists clients with a broad range of issues including wage & hour, sexual harassment, FMLA, employee discipline and discharge, discrimination, whistleblower actions, collective bargaining, contract administration, labor arbitration, and other employment and labor issues.  Sarah also investigates complaints of discrimination for employers, colleges, and universities on a regular basis.
